Building Bridges: Scaffolding With Purpose in Your HQIR
Scaffolding is a powerful practice when done with purpose. This session helps teachers, coaches, and leaders clarify what scaffolding is (and is not) and locate scaffolds in their HQIRs. Participants will analyze how supports promote productive struggle without lowering rigor and plan intentional use. Leave with an understanding of how to strengthen instruction with embedded scaffolds and move students toward independence.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
Define scaffolding with clarity – Explain what scaffolding is (and is not), using research-based guidance from the text "How Scaffolding Works".
Identify scaffolds in HQIRs – Locate explicit and embedded scaffolds in your HQIR instructional materials.
Analyze scaffolding effectiveness – Differentiate between scaffolds that promote productive struggle and over-scaffolding that reduces rigor.
Plan for scaffold use – Develop strategies to apply scaffolds, or coach others in doing so, intentionally in upcoming lessons to support all learners toward independence.
