In this session, educators will explore the foundational principles of Building Thinking Classrooms and how they support high-quality instructional resources (HQIRs) and the Standards for Mathematical Practice (SMPs).
Getting Started with Building Thinking Classrooms (BTC)
In this session, educators will explore the foundational principles of Building Thinking Classrooms and how they support high-quality instructional resources (HQIRs) and the Standards for Mathematical Practice (SMPs). Participants will engage in hands-on experiences with key practices such as vertical non-permanent surfaces, randomized grouping, and rich problem-solving tasks to promote student thinking and collaboration. Educators will leave with actionable strategies to begin implementing BTC in their classrooms to foster deeper mathematical understanding and engagement. Additionally, teachers will receive a Wipebook Kit valued at over $50.
LEARNING TARGETS
Understand the core principles of Building Thinking Classrooms and their alignment with HQIRs and the Standards for Mathematical Practice.
Experience and analyze key BTC strategies to promote mathematical thinking and problem-solving.
Identify initial steps for implementing BTC practices in their own classrooms.
