Learning walks can be a powerful lever for instructional improvement—when they’re done with purpose and follow-through.

This interactive session will guide school and district leaders in developing a deeper understanding of the K-12 Reading & Writing Instructional Practice Guide (IPG) as well as the K-3 Foundational Skills IPG. Participants will identify how to use IPGs to inform learning walks, transforming them into meaningful tools for professional growth and system-wide improvement.

LEARNING TARGETS

  • Understand the Process – Describe the purpose and steps of the Learning Walk Protocol and how it differs from evaluative walkthroughs.

  • Use the IPG Tool – Apply the Instructional Practice Guides to capture evidence of standards-aligned & HQIR- driven instruction during classroom learning walks.

  • Facilitate Effective Debriefs – Lead structured debrief discussions that focus on instructional strengths, areas for growth, and system-level supports needed.

  • Plan for School Implementation – Develop a plan for using Learning Walk Protocols in your schools/districts, including aligning observation focus areas with implementation goals.
