Rooted in practical application, this series ensures that participants leave prepared to design, implement, and monitor a comprehensive MTSS that improves reading and writing outcomes for all students by leveraging the HQIRs already in classrooms.

MTSS for Reading Improvement Academy

The MTSS for Reading Improvement Academy is a 4-day professional learning series based on the text "MTSS for Reading Improvement" by Brown & Stollar. This academy equips participants to strengthen literacy instruction across all tiers of support by applying the MTSS framework directly to their own high-quality instructional resources (HQIRs). Rooted in practical application, this series ensures that participants leave prepared to design, implement, and monitor a comprehensive MTSS that improves reading and writing outcomes for all students by leveraging the HQIRs already in classrooms.

By the end of this academy, participants will be able to:

  • Understand MTSS Foundations: Explain how the core components of an MTSS framework work together to ensure all students’ success.

  • Strengthen Tier 1 Literacy Instruction: Identify and apply strategies for using HQIRs to deliver evidence-based reading and writing instruction that meets the needs of diverse learners.

  • Differentiate for Tier 2 and Tier 3 Literacy Instruction: Explore Tier 2 and Tier 3 scaffolds and supports that align with core reading and writing instruction while addressing specific learner needs.

  • Use Data for Decision-Making: Apply assessment data to monitor student progress, determine the effectiveness of Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 interventions, and adjust supports accordingly.

  • Integrate Reading and Writing: Connect reading and writing instruction within the MTSS framework to strengthen literacy outcomes for all learners.
