Dr. Audrey Harper and Skip Cleavinger
Sep 16, 2025
This one-day professional learning experience is designed for Grades 6–12 educators seeking to support multilingual learners by leveraging high-quality instructional resources (HQIRs).
Rather than separating language and content, we’ll focus on how secondary students can develop academic language through meaningful engagement with grade-level content.
Participants will explore strategies to adapt materials and tasks in ways that support both comprehension and language development, without watering down rigor. Classroom teachers and multilingual educators are encouraged to attend together to foster collaboration and instructional alignment.
Learning Outcomes
Recognize how multilingual learners acquire academic language through active engagement with grade-level content.
Examine how HQIRs can be used and adapted to support both language development and content mastery.
Identify meaningful scaffolds that promote access to complex texts, tasks, and discussions without lowering expectations.
