Kara Markham
Professional Learning Specialist- Literacy
Kara is a passionate literacy leader who brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to educator growth in her role as a Professional Learning Specialist for Literacy at EPIC. With a background that spans classroom teaching, intervention coaching, and curriculum leadership, Kara specializes in designing professional learning that builds instructional capacity and promotes equitable literacy outcomes for all students.
Kara holds dual certifications in Elementary and Special Education and an Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Instructional Leadership. She is especially proud of her elected role on the board of the Kentucky Reading Association, where she works alongside state literacy leaders to advance the Science of Reading and effective instructional practices. Kara is known for her ability to translate research into practice, and for fostering environments where teachers feel safe to grow, reflect, and lead.
Her coaching approach is strengths-based, responsive, and grounded in trust. Whether she’s modeling a lesson, facilitating a PLC, or leading a full-day training, Kara brings clarity, purpose, and joy to every interaction. She believes that great teaching begins with empowered educators—and that transformation happens when we invest deeply in their learning.
Outside of her work with educators, Kara enjoys boating, racing, and relaxing with her two beloved dogs, Teddy and Stella. Fun fact: she was a welder before becoming a teacher—and once drove a race car! Whether at the track or in a school, Kara brings energy, connection, and a fierce dedication to helping others grow.
