Inquiry and Intellectual Preparation in Social Studies
Join Dr. Jana Kirchner, TCM, and EPIC for a collaborative professional learning experience focused on enhancing social studies instruction. This workshop is designed to help social studies teachers dig into the intellectual preparation cycle and the art of designing for inquiry with their locally adopted curriculum. Rooted in Kentucky's social studies standards and your curriculum, this session gives educators the tools to internalize meaningful, inquiry-based instruction.
Participants will be asked to bring their existing social studies curriculum materials to the workshop. This will enable educators to immediately apply the concepts discussed to their own classroom planning and instruction.
Please note, this workshop is focused on content application and is not a strategies or design-and-build session.
This is an Advanced Course designed to build upon foundational knowledge of Building Thinking Classrooms. Educators, Math Coaches and Instructional Leaders who support students in Grades 3-12 are invited.
- Apply the intellectual preparation cycle to plan and analyze social studies curriculum with greater depth and clarity.
- Understand how your curriculum uses inquiry-based learning experiences that are aligned to Kentucky's social studies standards.
